ELLIE JONES

BRISTOL

A BIT ABOUT ME

Having worked in the music industry for 10 years before making a move into floristry I'm passionate about music. I enjoy staying fit and practise yoga, swimming, cycling, and running. My favourite evenings are spent cooking with my boyfriend and generally eating and drinking my way around Bristol's many excellent bars & restaurants. Having previously had an allotment, I'm looking forward to one day having a garden where I can get back to growing my own veg and cut flowers too.

My favourite flower… Sweet Pea (this will change again within 5 minutes of having settled on an answer!)

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

I'm currently completing a Level 2 in Floral Design. I chose to study this course in particular because it covers art and design theory alongside floral mechanics. I'm finding this has helped my designs come on leaps and bounds because I now have theory underpinning my work. Whilst the course is predominantly grounded in floral foam techniques I'm passionate about foam free mechanics and have been adapting what I'm learning in class to then work without the need for floral foam.
My initial introduction to the floristry world was via a 3-day course at Tallulah Rose flower school when it was situated in Bath. Here, I was introduced to working with British Flowers and I've tried to incorporate "grown not flown" produce into all of the designs I've delivered since.

Albeit new to the world of floristry, I have been working hard to build up my skill set. I have been trusted with doing the flowers for 3 of my friends' weddings, I've done sympathy flowers for a neighbour, and I launched my own bouquet business the stay hands on with flowers during the pandemic lockdown - each week I put together a design compiled of local produce and then sell this in 2 set sizes. Through this I've had bouquets stocked in shops and have had 3 brides get in touch about bouquets for weddings being rearranged in the midst of the pandemic. Through this experience, I believe I am now competent and ever growing in my skills of hand tied bouquets, wiring (flower crowns and boutonnieres), foam filled and foam free arrangements.

LEVEL:

Beginner - 6 months in floristry

PREFERRED TYPE OF FLORISTRY WORK

Wedding and celebration work is my forte. Hand tied bouquets are what I have most experience in currently, and I'm keen to get into installations and large scale creations.
