EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

I am bench trained, and got interested in floristry after a day intro to floristry course at Shuttleworth College. I followed this up with a 10 week, Introduction to Floristry evening course at West Herts College. this was a traditional course using floral foam and creating set arrangements, we did however buy our own flowers for each session. Following this I took an 8 week evening course in advanced floristry at the Mary Ward Centre in London under Harriet Parry. This was a more contemporary course focusing more on concepts and floral artistry again choosing our own flowers. I have undertaken hand-tied courses at flower farms and invested in a fully wired bouquet course at The Cambridge Flower School. I have experience in managing events in London venues, as part of my main marketing job, including The Mayfair Hotel, Landmark Hotel, Regents Park College, BMA, Royal College of Gynaecologists, The Hurlingham Club and the Kensington Orangery and this encouraged me to move into wedding and event floristry. My style is nature led and free form I love using British flowers and twisted stems, currently exploring Ikebana style arrangements and grow my own flowers.

I freelance for Kerry Ashby of Foxgloves and Alice in Hertfordshire on weddings, working on floral installations and general event styling. I get fully involved in the prep work before the wedding and on the wedding day. I stopped using floral foam after my 2nd evening course preferring to use chicken wire and frog pins and prefer to maintain sustainable floristry options. I am interested in the changes in the floral industry as a whole and encouraged by the wool blocks that can be used at historic building where open water is not allowed. I have learnt fully wired bouquet and prefer the egg technique for wedding bouquets. I have provided flowers for DIY weddings and undertaken instructional demonstrations for brides and family members. I still work in digital marketing making time for freelancing and aim to move into floristry full time.
