A BIT ABOUT ME

I have a long held passion and interest in Modern Art, Architecture and Fashion Design. As a consequence I enjoy visiting art exhibitions and travelling in order to explore the architecture and cultures of different cities and countries.
I am especially interested in the use of lines, shape and negative space within design disciplines and draw inspiration from this in my floristry design process.
I also enjoy spending time outdoors, exploring the surrounding countryside with my dog and draw inspiration from nature.
Away from the world of floristry and design my other big passion is music, attending gigs and spending some quality time with my extensive vinyl collection.

A favourite flower… Tough Question....they all have creative worth and beauty. As a focal flower I love working with Proteas and Artichoke Heads when they are in season. For me the real stars of bouquets and arrangements are often the smaller, transitional flowers that help bring contrast and rhythm to designs.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Level 3 in Floristry with Distinction from Reaseheath College

Other training/qualifications pertaining to my previous career as a Trauma therapist/Therapeutic Social Worker and include a BA in Applied Social Studies and a Diploma in Social Work.

Since 2019 I have primarily worked as a freelance/self employed florist. Over this time I have worked for a range of floristry businesses as well as working specifically for myself.
I have undertaken work within commercial florist shops on both a full time and part time basis as well as working ad hoc shifts during peak times in the floristry calendar. I have undertaken large scale event work in a freelance capacity and for my own business.
Most recently I have worked as a Head Florist/Shop Manager tasked with the responsibility of re-branding and relaunching a struggling florist shop. This was a full time role and I was given full autonomy in terms of branding, building a social media platform, flower ordering, creative designs and planning and running workshops.
I am able to work autonomously and in close collaboration with others. I am also very flexible and can adapt to different styles of floristry design depending on the environment that I am working within.
I am hard working and have a capacity to work long hours when required.
I love the creative processes involved in floristry work and the potential to create bespoke arrangements that can resemble living pieces of art.
However, I have also worked in very busy commercial environments where large quantities of bouquets and arrangements have been required to be made under tight timescales.
I have experience in the many varied aspects of floristry work including flower ordering, flower care and conditioning, designs, client consultations, processing sales and orders, deliveries, event planning, off site work, staff training and management and workshop experiences.

Experience:

Intermediate - 5 years

PREFERRED TYPE OF FLORISTRY WORK

I enjoy all aspects of floristry work and do not have a strong preference towards any one area.
In the past year I have undertaken quite a lot of funeral work after securing a funeral contract for the business I was managing. I have enjoyed the process of designing and creating some very bespoke, contemporary arrangements as part of this work.
I also enjoy working off site, constructing floristry arrangements that completely alter the aesthetic of a room or environment. Event work and weddings often provide some very exciting creative briefs.
However, I can equally find professional joy and satisfaction from the process of collating a shop flower order and exploring the various bouquet design options from the flower and foliage ingredients available.
